Upcoming dates

Lots to update you on, thanks for reading through this one, it’s long!!

It’s time for a community dinner! Yay! I can do April 1, 22, or 29, please text me to let me know which of these nights is best. I know evenings are a challenge for some of you but these dinners are good for everyone to get together as a group and we have a lot of new faces around so it’s just a nice way to gather and get to see everyone. As always, it’s spouse, partner, friend and kid friendly- just let us know so we have places set and bring them along! This time I want to mix things up and have everyone bring in a piece that’s a new glaze combo to share with everyone! Good or awful, haha, either a “try this” piece or “wow this is a hot mess stay clear” piece, lol! Psst… I’m doing a glaze load before the 1st, try some test tiles out if you don’t have anything to show… or just come anyway without anything for show and tell :-)

It is time for our studio spring cleaning. Please let me know if you can be there Sunday April 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 or Monday April 7th, starting at 10:00. Everone needs to participate in the spring cleaning, so please let me know when you can be there. If you are out of town, let me know and I will assign you a chore that needs to be done. Spring cleaning is for our health. There is a build up of clay dust we need to get rid of regularly. It’s also the time to take care of things like straightening your shelf, clearing out unfinished and unwanted projects, reorganizing the studio tools, etc.

The chore chart has some gaps in it. I will take on April for the shop vac but I need a helper. Emily and Liz have been doing this chore for the last almost two years so let’s give them a break and sign up for it.

A couple of things to note about firings…

If you still need your pieces under plastic, they are not ready to put on the bisque shelf to be fired. Wait to bring them out when they no longer need plastic on them. It’s been a while since this has happened but it’s started happening again so I wanted to remind everyone I can’t monitor your work, I just fire it. Thanks!

A reminder we have moved to firing all glazed pieces with cookies under them. Most of you have been good about putting the cookies under your pieces when you are putting them on the glaze shelf. I will put the pile of cookies in an easier to access spot for everyone so you can remember to grab those and put them under your pieces. Remember if you are making larger pieces, you will need to make a cookie large enough to go completely under it. When you’re working, take a minute to make a few as you go. Any small ball of clay is fine, if you want to help out by making a bunch for us, I have reclaim I’m happy to give you to use for that, just let me know.

Next week I will be mixing glazes and getting those ready to refill the buckets. I don’t have any plans to add to the glazes right now but I am always happy to test glazes for you. If you found any, print out the recipe and leave it on the studio table for me to try. If anyone would like to learn to mix glazes, let me know when you are available and we can do that.

I want to apologize for completely taking over some of the work in progress shelves. I also know my clay has been literally spilling out all over the floor. I’ll be cleaning my area out today and hopefully that won’t be a problem going forward. I try!!

Well, thanks again for supporting the school and studio and being a part of the community! See you soon!!

Sarah
